Job DescriptionThe Electrical Designer is responsible for designing electrical control systems and schematics for material handling equipment. They will create electrical systems using their expertise on how electricity works, and programming with wiring and power distribution diagrams to fit the needs of individual projects.
Responsibilities- Develop safe control designs for mechanical systems including component specifications, component selection, schematic design, enclosure design, interconnection, and cable design based on applicable standards.
- Complete detailed drawings for manufacture by utilizing AutoCAD Electrical and Solid Works PDM software.
- Develop programs for PLC, HMI, and Servo Drives that may use Ladder Diagram, Codesys, C, C++, Python.
- Own projects from kickoff through design, procurement, manufacture, shipping & commissioning.
- Responsible for the ERP job content, bill of materials, requisitioning of materials, release of production orders, release of electrical and mechanical manufacturing drawings.
- Provide technical support for the manufacturing floor.
- Independently develop workable design concepts.
- Check for errors which cause rework and mistakes.
- Produce detailed, standards and production-ready drawings and software.
- Generate manuals to accompany product, when required.
- Document changes to projects or jobs and ensure proper documentation occurs.
- Work quickly and be willing and to learn new concepts.
- Comprehend the project objectives and direct the design to this end.
- Make recommendations on products, designs, and materials for cost improvements.
- Create and manage design standards.
- Proactively list and implement all project tasks.
- Proactively manage all the necessary materials with minimum supervision.
- Control design/build targets related to customer requirements.
- Attend site visits, project kick off meetings, department meetings and project debrief meetings.
- Liaise with the manufacturing team to ensure designs are executed correctly within timelines.
- Collaborate with installation team and respond to questions/problems before and during the installation stage of the project.
- Degree or Diploma in Electrical Engineering Technology, or Engineering.
- Strong working knowledge of Standards such as the Electrical Safety Code, SPE 1000, UL508-A, ISO 13849 or EN62061.
- Completion of AutoCAD Electrical courses and Solid Works courses is an asset.
- Completion of Programming courses for PLC, C, C++, and Python, an asset.
- Experience with embedded systems CAN J1939, CANopen, an asset.
- Experience with Industrial Risk assessment and Sistema, an asset.
- Completion of SOLIDWORKS training courses an asset
- P.Eng. designation an asset.
- Maintain valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle.
- Maintain valid passport with ability to travel in North America as needed, less than 10%.
- 5+ years of experience in electrical design.
- A demonstrated track record of producing professional schematic sets and Programs for manufacture.
- Proficiency in integrating and manipulating PLC, HMI, Servo Drive, data between platforms.
- Experience with IIOT, industry 4.0 and MQTT information handling.
- Proven experience working in a Lean manufacturing environment, methods, and process improvement programs.
- Strong AutoCAD Electrical and programming abilities.
- Prior experience using Solid Works PDM, an asset.
- Proficient software experience with ERP systems (Infor CSI/Syteline preferred), and Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and MS Project).
