Site Overview: SMGH is a 197-bed comprehensive community hospital located in Kitchener, Ontario, and the second largest acute care facility in the St. Joseph’s Health System. It serves Waterloo, Wellington, Dufferin, Grey-Bruce and surrounding regions, providing 24/7 emergency care, cardiac and respiratory services, outpatient/day surgery, and general medicine.
Position: Full-Time Security Guard
Site: Waterloo Regional Health Network, 911 Queen's Blvd, Kitchener, ON N2M 1B2
Hours: Rotating Continental / hrs)
Payrate: $20.24hr.
Averaging Agreement: Overtime is Averaging Agreement after 88 hours
Key responsibilities:
Conduct regular rounds of hospital premises, including parking areas, hallways, patient rooms, entrances, and exits, to ensure the safety and security of the siteOperate security cameras and alarm systems, ensuring any suspicious activity is reported immediately to the appropriate authoritiesMonitor and control entry points to the hospital, ensuring that only authorized individuals are allowed access to restricted areasAct quickly in emergency situations, such as medical emergencies, fire alarms, or security threats. Assist hospital staff as needed during crises and evacuationsGreeting and assisting visitors, patients, and hospital staff. Provide directions and ensure that guests adhere to hospital policies and proceduresDe-escalate tense situations, resolve conflicts, and ensure that all interactions are handled calmly and professionallyDocument daily activities, incidents, or accidents accurately. Complete reports on incidents, breaches, and security concernsWork closely with hospital staff and local law enforcement to provide a coordinated security effort and ensure the safety of all parties involvedEnsure that hospital policies, including visitor and patient protocols, are followedAddress any violations in a manner that upholds hospital safety standardsRequirements:
Valid Security License for the province of OntarioValid First Aid & CPR Level C from a WSIB approved providerImmunization records for Mumps, Measles, Rubella, Varicella , Covid Vaccine two doses, and two step TB skin testEnglish (oral and written) fluency is a mustMust have one year experience in healthcare security, or law enforcementLegally authorized to work in CanadaDegree in Police Foundations, Protection Security and Investigations, Criminology, or Border Services will be an assetAble to provide a clean shaven face in order to pass a N95 mask fit testAbility to walk/climb stairs throughout the premises for longer periods of timeMust be able to provide certifications in Use of Force (UOF) and Management of Aggressive Behavior (MOAB)Applicants who do not possess these certifications can opt into Paladin's Use of Force (UOF)/Management of Aggressive Behavior (MOAB) training program prior to their onboarding training to ensure they meet the requirements of the positionPlease be aware:
The UOF/MOAB certification is not paid as it is a pre-employment requisite; however, Paladin will cover all the costs of the training with a 6-month commitment to the position/availability
