An Ab Initio Developer designs, builds, and maintains complex data integration (ETL) solutions using the Ab Initio suite, transforming large datasets for business intelligence, data warehousing, and analytics, requiring skills in graph development, SQL, UNIX scripting, performance tuning, and collaboration with technical/business teams to ensure data quality and efficient processing. Key tasks include developing graphs ( Rollup , Join ), PDL / meta programming , Control Center , EME , MFS ), optimizing performance, creating documentation, and troubleshooting production issues.
Key Responsibilities
Design & Development: Create ETL workflows, graphs, and components using Ab Initio tools (GDE) to extract, transform, and load data.
Data Transformation: Implement complex logic using PDL, MFS (Massively Parallel File System ), and metadata
-driven techniques.
Performance Tuning: Optimize graphs for efficiency (CPU, memory, throughput) and tune SQL queries.
Collaboration:
Work with data architects, analysts, and business stakeholders to gather requirements and deliver solutions.
Support & Maintenance: Monitor, debug, and resolve issues in existing production data pipelines.
Documentation: Create design documents, runbooks, and technical specifications.
Best Practices: Implement and adhere to coding standards, source control (EME), and Agile methodologies.
Essential Skills & Technologies
Ab Initio: Core components (Rollup, Join, Scan, Partitioning), GDE, Control Center , EME, PDL, MFS
Databases: Strong SQL, PL/SQL, relational database concepts (Oracle, SQL Server), Big Query
Scripting: UNIX/Linux shell scripting ( Korn Shell , Bash ).
Methodologies: Agile, Waterfall.
Typical Tools Used
Ab Initio GDE (Graph Development Environment)
EME (Enterprise Meta Environment) : (Source Control)
Control Center : (Monitoring)
SQL , UNIX Shell, Python
Jira , Confluence : (for Agile/documentation).
