Assistant Mechanical Engineer

Pro Match is recruiting for a practical, hands‑on Mechanical Engineering Assistant to join our client’s team in Sutherland. The company is a leader in responsible aquaculture, producing premium salmon through low‑impact farming methods across remote coastal sites.

This role is ideal for someone who has built mechanical skills through their work experience whether from farming, marine work, vehicle maintenance or other hands‑on environments. Working alongside the Engineering Manager and site teams, you’ll help keep equipment running safely and efficiently across seawater and freshwater operations. From boats and lifting gear to vehicles and site machinery, you’ll play a key part in ensuring smooth operations, fish welfare and environmental responsibility.

• Maintain and repair machinery, boats, lifting equipment and vehicles
• Support moorings work and assist site teams with day‑to‑day operations
• Spot and report equipment issues, helping reduce downtime and costs
• Follow Health & Safety and fish welfare standards in all tasks
• Help with waste management and upkeep of equipment
• Take part in training, support new staff and cover occasional out‑of‑hours duties

• Practical mechanical experience - you do not need to be fully qualified
• Confidence using tools and equipment safely and effectively
• Awareness of Health & Safety and willingness to follow company standards
• A problem‑solving mindset and good communication skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Due to location a full driving licence and own transport
• Willingness to learn and take on training

• Full‑time hours, Monday to Friday with weekend rota and overtime opportunities
• Enhanced overtime rates: 1.5x weekdays, 1.75x weekends
