Personal Tax Manager

About the Role

Our client is seeking an experienced Personal Tax Manager to join their established and expanding accounting firm in Lancaster. This role offers an excellent opportunity to take ownership of a diverse portfolio of personal tax clients while contributing to the strategic development of tax services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage and oversee a portfolio of personal tax clients, ensuring compliance with HMRC regulations and deadlines
  • Prepare and review Self Assessment tax returns for individuals, partnerships, and trusts
  • Provide expert tax planning advice to clients, identifying opportunities for tax efficiency and relief claims
  • Handle complex tax matters including capital gains tax, inheritance tax planning, and non‑domicile issues
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships, serving as the primary point of contact for tax queries
  • Supervise and mentor junior team members, reviewing their work and supporting their professional development
  • Liaise with HMRC on behalf of clients, managing enquiries and investigations
  • Stay current with tax legislation changes and communicate implications to clients and the team
  • Contribute to practice development through client referrals and business development activities
Essential Requirements
  • Minimum ATT qualified; CTA or equivalent experience is desirable
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in personal tax within an accountancy practice
  • Strong technical knowledge of UK personal taxation
  • Excellent client relationship management skills
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Proficiency with tax software and Microsoft Office applications
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Desirable Skills
  • Experience with high‑net‑worth individuals and complex tax affairs
  • Knowledge of international tax matters
  • Practice management or supervisory experience
