Job Overview
As a Band 6 Sister/Charge Nurse, you will be a visible personality on the ward, able to take control of situations and manage the day‑to‑day running of the ward in the ward manager’s absence. You will be approachable, supportive to all staff, and able to offer advice and guidance when needed. You will lead by example and support junior staff to maintain the ward’s high standards.

- Support the ward manager with general management duties and comply with Trust policies at all times.

DetailedJob Description and Main Responsibilities
- General running of the ward during the shift and coordination of patient care needs.
- Coordinate safety huddles, inform staff of new risks, and update on changes to medical plans.
- Liaise with the medical team, conduct board rounds, and assist the consultant on daily ward rounds.
- Assist the ward manager with sickness and attendance policies, incident reporting, and audit compliance.
- Manage training needs, book and attend mandatory and professional development courses, and conduct weekly/monthly audits to ensure compliance with staff roles and Trust guidelines.
- Essential:
Registered Nurse (1st Level), post‑registration qualification in speciality, teaching & assessment qualification, diploma. - Desirable:
Leadership course, degree or working towards a degree.
- Essential:
Ability to set priorities, teamwork, leadership qualities, assertiveness, excellent time management, good IT skills, decision making, communication at all levels, lateral thinking, problem solving, staff rota management, change management, influencing skills, delegation, venepuncture/cannulation, intermediate life support, advanced life support.
- Essential:
Substantial post‑registration experience, teaching within the clinical area, evidence of continuous professional development, experience of managing a clinical area and team, experience of clinical audit and research. - Desirable:
Experience of change management.
