As a Pet Stylist at Petco, you will be responsible for providing professional grooming services to our valued customers’ pets. With your expertise and attention to detail, you will ensure that each pet receives exceptional care, leaving them looking and feeling their best.

• Perform professional grooming services—including bathing, drying, brushing, haircuts and styling, nail trimming, ear cleaning, and gland cleaning—according to pet parent instructions and adhering to breed standards and company policies.
• Operate and maintain grooming instruments such as clippers, blades, shears, brushes, and dryers.
• Prioritize the well‑being and safety of every animal, monitor pets for any signs of discomfort or illness, and report concerns promptly.
• Assess each pet’s unique needs, considering coat type, skin conditions, and temperament.
• Provide professional, customer‑focused service to pet parents, addressing inquiries and offering grooming recommendations.
• Easily educate pet parents on grooming maintenance and at‑home care practices to promote overall well‑being.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and sanitary grooming area, including daily and weekly cleaning tasks and adherence to Petco hygiene policies.
• Ensure grooming standards and guidelines are consistently met, providing quality and consistency in all activities.
• Support and, when necessary, supervise entry‑level trainees in the absence of a Grooming Salon Leader.

• Completion of the Pet Stylist Apprentice program with Petco, or previous experience as a professional groomer and/or completion of a technical grooming training program.
• High‑school diploma or GED preferred (not required).
• Strong judgment and problem‑solving skills, using grooming knowledge to address routine to moderately complex situations.
• Commitment to productivity, performance, and ownership in the grooming salon.
• Exceptional attention to detail, ensuring services are executed accurately to the highest standards.
• Authentic passion for animals and a desire to pursue a long‑term grooming career.
• Expert knowledge of dog breeds, grooming requirements, common health issues, and behaviors.
• Proficiency in breed‑specific cuts, styling techniques, and grooming standards.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills for interactions with pet parents and team members.
• Ability to handle pets of all sizes and temperaments with care and empathy.
• Availability to work weekends, evenings, and holidays as required by the grooming schedule.

The majority of duties are performed indoors in the grooming salon and require bending, kneeling, lifting (up to 30 lbs), and standing for extended periods. The role may involve use of a two‑step ladder and exposure to noises and moisture. Direct contact with pet parents and their dogs occupies a significant portion of the day.
