Overview
The River Ecosystems Laboratory at EPFL seeks candidates for a postdoctoral position on snow algae ecology. The project is interdisciplinary, involving microbial ecology, remote sensing and AI, in collaboration with EPFL’s Environmental and Computational Science and Earth Observation Laboratory, and with laboratories at Aarhus University and DTU in Denmark. The postdoctoral scholar will study biotic interactions of snow algae in Greenland and possibly Antarctica and will perform bench-scale experiments to corroborate field observations.
Responsibilities- Work on research projects and collaborate with team members
- Analyze data and publish results
- Build a strong network in the field
- Participate in education and supervise PhD and master students
- Ph.D. in biology, microbiology, ecology, or a related field
- Significant research experience in microbial ecology, molecular biology and quantitative ecology demonstrated by peer-reviewed articles
- Significant experience in experimental work with algae and other microorganisms
- Significant experience with R and analysis of microbiome and environmental data; ability to handle large data sets
- Ability to work in an interdisciplinary collaborative team
- Postdoctoral research experience
- Proven skills in microscopy and imaging
- Proven skills in RStudio and Python
- English literacy
- Experience with fieldwork in polar environments
- Experience in mentoring and/or supervising
