BBC Local operates a network of radio stations across England and the Channel Islands. From Truro to Newcastle, we are at the heart of the local community. While our shows will primarily be studio‑based, we are all about getting into the heart of the communities that we serve. We have a unique connection with our audience and love finding and sharing their stories.
This placement will be based with a BBC Local Radio station – Radio Leeds – and will include the opportunity to work on local BBC Introducing shows. BBC Introducing is a network of creatives, producers, presenters and music enthusiasts dedicated to discovering and supporting emerging musical talent across the UK.
YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACTAs a Production Apprentice, this is a brilliant opportunity to learn, grow, and contribute.
In BBC Local, no two days are ever the same. You’ll get a chance to work across a variety of content, which could involve occasional early mornings, evenings and weekends.
You could be working on:
- Script‑writing
- Audio editing for Radio and BBC Sounds
- Assisting with the live radio shows in the studio
- Meeting contributors
- Producing video for our social media content and regional TV output
- Listening to new music in the uploader
- Helping on events & gigs
You’ll be learning both on and off the job. This means that as well as learning on your placement at the BBC, you’ll also attend learning blocks (up to a week at a time) with our learning provider, working towards an industry‑recognised apprenticeship qualification – Level 3 Production Assistant. Learning blocks will be a mixture of in‑person and virtual delivery.
