Weare looking for a Locum Consultant Neurologist based at Leeds General infirmary and possibly covering district general hospitals in the West Yorkshire acute trust network (WYAAT). Candidates will work with the existing team to deliver general neurology on call and acute ward cover and provide general neurology outpatient clinics.

Postholder is expected to work with 18neurology consultants.

Weare seeking a candidate with skills in diagnosing and managing various general neurology conditions. The post-holder will support both inpatient and outpatient general neurology services at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust

The successful applicant should possess MRCP (or equivalent) and should be include don the Specialist Register or within 6 months of CCT at the time of interview,if currently within a training programme within the UK. In accordance with the consultant appointment regulations, all other categories of doctors must be on the Specialist Register.

Main duties of the job

Todeliver care to patients with a neurological conditions at the LGI and other

Trust locations.

Supervision of patients

Contribute to Specialist Multi-disciplinary team meetings

The provision of a general neurology outpatient service and contribute to the inpatient service.

The delivery of urgent neurology pathways, such as the first fit pathway.

Contribution to the further development of the regional neuroscience centre including provision of aspecialist service.

To contribute to research, teaching and new developments within the CSU. The post holder will be encouraged to facilitate and contribute to the current clinical research programs on going inthe department.

To develop alliance initiatives with neighbouring Trust alliance partners.

To contribute to the care of general medical/elderly patients as per the agreed job plan (for AIM/GIM accredited candidates).

To work co-operatively and effectively as part of the wider neurosciences and Speciality internal medicine teams, being held to account for clinical, service development and training outcomes.

To work closely with the colleagues in related clinical areas, in particular the emergency department, other medical and acute surgical specialties and with colleagues in primary care andthose at the interface.

2.1 To link with Consultant colleagues inother relevant site specialist teams within the neurology service

About us

TheCSU brings together the core services providing the clinical management support for the Departments of Neurology, Neurosurgery and Neurophysiology. Mr Robert Rathbone is the General Manager of the CSU, Dr Jonathan Bilmen is Clinical Director and Mr Robin Darby is Head of Nursing. Dr Maruthi Vinjam is Clinical Lead for Neurology and Neurophysiology and Ms Linda Hayward is the Business Manager for Stroke and Neurology.

Afull neuro-physiological service is provided on-site and there are close linkswith the Department of Neuro-psychology.

Thereare currently 18 neurology consultants in the service. The junior staffing of the neurosciencesdepartment usually consists of 8 Registrars and 12 FY2/CMT/GPST trainees; oneof whom always supports the Stroke on-call and a minimum of two trainees perstroke ward.
