The RoleThe successful Senior Mechanical Engineer will play a key leadership role within the mechanical engineering function, supporting the development of the team while driving high‑quality design, innovation and continuous improvement.
Key responsibilities include:- Mentoring and developing the mechanical engineering team
- Managing day‑to‑day departmental workload alongside the Lead Mechanical Engineer
- Overseeing mechanical designs, drawings and bills of materials (BOMs)
- Ensuring all designs meet BS/IEC standards and customer specifications
- Selecting components to meet electrical and mechanical performance requirements
- Preparing working designs, prototypes and supporting testing activity
- Collaborating with internal project teams and external customers
- Driving R&D and continuous improvement of existing and future products
- Providing technical input at contract start‑up and producing technical documentation
- Managing resources, departmental targets and workflow processes
- Developing component libraries and delivering internal technical training
This is a hands‑on senior role with genuine influence over product direction, engineering standards and team development.
About the Ideal Candidate- Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent)
- Proven experience in mechanical design within an industrial/manufacturing environment
- Strong working knowledge of BS/IEC standards
- Proficient in 2D & 3D CAD (AutoCAD, Inventor, Solid Works or similar)
- Experienced in BOM creation and component selection
- Strong technical problem‑solving and analytical skills
- Confident managing multiple projects and deadlines
- Natural leader with strong communication and mentoring ability
