Role Responsibilities- Development of Fire Safety Strategy reports
- Means of Escape analysis, including calculations of evacuation times, escape routes and exit widths, assessment of travel distances, and development of evacuation strategy plans
- Assessment and understanding of main British Fire Safety Regulations and Standards such as Approved Document B (AD
B), BS 9999, BS 7974, BS 9991, BB 100, HTM 05, etc. - Assessment and understanding of British fire safety legislation and standards for rail projects, including London Underground standards, Network Rail standards (e.g., LUL – S1371), Railway Safety Principles and Guidance (RSPG), BS 9992
- Risk‑Based interpretation and application of fire safety documents and Codes of Practice, including international NFPA standards (e.g., NFPA 101, NFPA 130)
- Third‑party review and design verification
- Attendance of internal design team meetings and external design team meetings with clients (initial supervision)
- Support in developing Fire Risk Assessment reports for both building and rail sectors
- Hazard Identification
- As Low As Reasonably Practicable (ALARP) understanding
- Knowledge of PAS 9980, EWS1 forms and Façade Engineering
- Understanding of the Building Safety Act 2022
- Fire Risk Assessment principles
- Understanding of fire dynamics, heat transfer and smoke behaviour in enclosed environments (especially undergrounds and tunnels)
- Basic knowledge of Active Fire Protection (AFP) and Passive Fire Protection (PFP) measures
- Basic knowledge of fire modelling simulation using zone models (CFAST) and CFD‑based models (FDS, Pyrosim, SMARTFIRE)
- Strong experience of fire safety engineering skills
- A suitable engineering, architecture, scientific or numerate degree recognised by a recognised university (e.g., Fire Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Maths)
- Qualifications recognised by a professional engineering body; aspiration to full membership
- Ideally a Chartered Engineer or working towards the Chartership
- Ability to work independently on set tasks and contribute to a team environment
- Capability to take on challenges and support other experts when required
- Field experience preparing proposals and marketing material for Fire Safety capabilities
- CSCS Card – desirable
- Ability to obtain Security Clearance – desirable
