The Opportunity

Our client is seeking an accomplished Senior Mechanical Services Design Engineer to join their expanding northern operations. This is a key technical role where you will lead the mechanical design function—driving high‑quality solutions across heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and public health systems.

As a senior member of the team, you will work collaboratively with internal departments, clients, and external design partners, delivering innovative, efficient, and sustainable design solutions that meet regulatory standards and exceed client expectations.

Key Responsibilities

* Lead and deliver mechanical services design packages, including calculations, schedules, surveys, and site inspections

* Undertake full HVAC system design and optimisation

* Produce high‑quality working drawings, schematics, and technical documentation

* Identify commercial risks and ensure designs align with project budgets and programmes

* Attend and contribute to client and project meetings

* Collaborate effectively with external consultants and multidisciplinary teams

* Provide mentorship, guidance, and support to junior and intermediate engineers

* Report directly to the Design Manager and ensure all deliverables meet required standards and deadlines

* Work closely with wider G&H personnel to support project success

What We’re Looking For

* Minimum 5 years’ post‑qualification experience within building services mechanical design

* Strong design background across a variety of sectors, ideally including renewables

* HNC/HND in Building Services Engineering (or equivalent)

* Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD, Amtech, Hevacomp, and Revit

* Strong understanding of BIM processes and protocols

* Proven ability to take ownership and deliver a hands‑on, detail‑led design approach

* Excellent communication skills and the confidence to lead technical discussions

* Strong organisational and time‑management skills, with the ability to manage competing deadlines

* Full UK driving licence required
