Actuarial Consultant – GMP Equalisation and Project Work (Nationwide)
Mercer is seeking a seasoned actuary with a strong background in GMP rectification and equalisation to join our UK Retirement market team. The role focuses on providing technical expertise, supporting pension projects, and driving revenue growth.
Responsibilities- Collaborate and lead complex defined benefit modelling within a multidisciplinary team.
- Quality Assurance – review complex calculations for accuracy and clarity.
- Drive improvement initiatives, knowledge sharing, training, and process rollouts.
- Build relationships with internal teams and deliver seamless service across lines of business.
- Develop junior colleagues by supporting performance reviews, training, and personal development plans.
- Client engagement – develop consulting skills by engaging directly with clients on actuarial projects.
- Project involvement – pension scheme valuations, risk assessments, and benefit design initiatives, applying actuarial techniques to solve complex problems.
- Lead team meetings to discuss progress, share insights, and address challenges.
- Qualified or part‑qualified actuary.
- Extensive experience in actuarial technical calculations.
- Strong understanding of UK Defined Benefit pension schemes and benefit calculations.
- Excellent analytical, numerical, and critical thinking skills.
- People management skills.
- Previous experience in a similar role within an actuarial team, particularly in pensions, with a focus on technical aspects and exposure to consultants and client support teams.
