Position: Senior Radiology Assistant (XR03)

Therole involves working alongside Radiologists and qualified members of theteam supporting the provision of high quality standards of care to patients undergoing invasive diagnostic and interventional ultrasound procedures.

Ultrasound are looking for a highly motivated, enthusiastic individual whocan demonstrate excellent communication skills, a caring and friendlydemeanour and a keen eye for detail. The work is both challenging and rewarding and is most suited to an individual who can prioritise their workload, respond quickly to changing situations and work well under pressure. Full and part time hours available.

Main duties of the job
  • To communicate effectively and empathetically with patients and their escorts prior to, during and after the ultrasound scan and / or interventional procedure.
  • To prepare sterile equipment in preparation of the interventional procedure and prepare drugs for intravenous administration
  • Assist staff with interventional procedures such as biopsies and injections, adhering to aseptic techniques
  • To maintain high standards of hygiene and cleanliness for patient needs, the ultrasound equipment and working environment
  • To participate in the safe transfer of patients and equipment within the department
  • Liaise with other departments/wards within the hospital in order to provide a quality service to patients and clinicians

Job

responsibilities
  • Escort patients in and out of the examination rooms.
  • Assist patients on and off the examination table and where necessary, use various mobilisation devices in line with moving and handling training.
  • Communicate effectively and empathetically with patients and their carers.
  • Assist with moving and handling of those patients who are immobile in a manner that is safe for all concerned and following manual handling guidelines.
  • Assist and aid registered practitioners or medical staff in the delivery of minimally invasive procedures.
  • To prepare sterile equipment in preparation of any interventional procedures.
  • Prepared drugs for intravenous administration following appropriate training and inline with department medicine management guidelines under supervision.
  • To maintain high standards of hygiene and cleanliness for patient needs, the equipment and working environment.
  • Ensuresafe handling of medicines at all times.
  • To physically position the patient for a range of routine examinations.
  • To include registering the patient, updating patient records, bookings, extraction of work lists and all other associated RIS activities.
  • To enter accurate patient and examination data into Radiology Information System.
  • Monitor stock, operate stock control and order medical equipment, accessories, consumables, linen and pharmacy and order as required.
  • Deal with telephone messages in an efficient manner. Report any adverse incidents to the appropriate line manager in line with the Trust and radiology risk management system.
  • Basic operation of the specialised equipment following appropriate training.
  • Wear personal protective equipment when required.
  • Care for, check and maintain high standards of cleanliness of clinical equipment to minimise spread of infection.
  • Maintaining high standards of cleanliness in examination rooms to minimise spread of infection.
  • Ensuresafe disposal of linen and clinical waste from the department.
Person Specification Experience
  • Experience of working with the general public in a healthcare role.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Evidence of moving and handling.
  • Experience in asepsis techniques.
  • Evidence of training in the use of patient observation equipment.
Qualifications
  • GCSE English and Maths Grade 4 or Functional Skills English and Maths equivalent (Level
    2)
  • Level 3 qualification in a relevant healthcare related subject
  • Commitment to undertake all training…
