Wehave a permanent post for a full-time Assistant Psychologist to work within

Adult Medicine services at the Department of Clinical and Health Psychology at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. The Adult Medicine team covers avariety of medical specialties including cardiology, pain, renal,rheumatology, and gastro, meaning that your work will be varied and interesting. This post offers the opportunity to deliver a brief structuredcompassion-focused intervention on a 1:1 basis within these specialities. Therewill also be the opportunity to contribute to and assist with group work suchas Living with Pain groups and information talks for new patients.

We valueand prioritise training and supervision, and this role will be an excellent opportunity to develop your clinical skills and to deliver meaningful clinical work.

Main duties of the job

Thispost would suit someone with previous experience of working directly with clients, who is interested in working within an acute physical health setting/medical team. You will be providing low intensity therapeutic interventions on an individual basis with patients within the medical specialties and you will receive training to deliver this intervention aswell as regular supervision. You will work alongside other specialistclinicians within the department to deliver group interventions.

You will alsohave the opportunity to support specialist clinicians with other aspects ofservice development and delivery and to contribute to service audits an devaluations.

Youwill be based ess Hospital, within the Department of Clinical& Health Psychology - one of the largest clinical health psychologydepartments in the country. We have over 60 clinicians organised into foursectors (Medicine, Surgery & Rehabilitation, Neuropsychology and Staff Support).

JOB PURPOSE/SUMMARY

Therole will involve providing a short-term therapeutic intervention to patients with long term health conditions, referred to any of the sub-specialtieswithin adult medicine (eg pain psychology, gastro psychology). Duties willlargely consist of delivering a low-intensity psychological intervention,based on a manualised four-session treatment protocol. Therapy may beconducted face-to-face or online.

Therole will also involve supporting psychologists to run groups for patients with long term health conditions.

Therole may involve facilitating discussions with people about their experiences including with patients, carers and staff. Duties to include administratingand scoring psychological tests; assessment of participants enrolled in research studies; developing resources; maintenance of databases; data collection and analysis; and assistance with writing papers and researchproposals. This can include the use of a database (Excel); advancedsystematic literature searches and retrieval; data collection, entry andanalysis using SPSS and liaison with a variety of professions.

The appointeewill be supervised by an applied psychologist.
