Role overviewLead the architectural direction for encryption services that protect millions of citizens' data every day. Modernise legacy platforms, drive cloud migration, and embed automation to deliver resilience and efficiency. Work at the heart of our Identity & Encryption team, collaborating with engineers and security experts to design solutions that are secure, scalable, and aligned with government strategy.
Skills, knowledge and experience needed- Expertise in IAM (Identity & Access Management), MFA (Multi‑Factor Authentication), RBAC (Role‑based Access Control), and SSO (Single‑Sign On) technologies
- Deep knowledge of encryption & cryptography (SSL/TLS, PKI, VPNs)
- Proven experience designing architectures across on‑prem, cloud, and hybrid environments
- Architecture design experience working with project delivery teams within agile, waterfall and hybrid environments throughout the lifecycle (from concept to go‑live)
- Ability to lead technical design, mentor teams, and translate business needs into secure solutions
You are a strategic thinker with deep technical expertise and a passion for secure, scalable solutions. In this role, you will lead the design and delivery of encryption services that protect sensitive data and underpin critical government systems across cloud and hybrid environments, modernising legacy platforms and introducing automation to drive efficiency.
Your days will be spent collaborating with architects, engineers, and security specialists to shape solutions that meet complex business needs while aligning with DWP's transformation goals. Your ability to mentor others, influence stakeholders, and translate requirements into robust technical designs will make you a key contributor in our mission.

Blackpool, Leeds or Manchester – whichever is most convenient for you.

Pay:
Up to £83,917 – £57,946 salary plus a Government Digital and Data Allowance of up to £25,971, based on assessment.
Pension:
Civil Service pension with 28.97% employer contributions (up to £16,786 per year).
