About

The Role

Hippo is recruiting for a Senior Data Architect to join our Hippo Herd. The Senior Data Architect will work in multi‑disciplinary teams that build, support, and maintain user‑centred digital solutions that offer real value to every user.

As a Senior Data Architect
, you will be part of teams that create solutions making data accessible for optimisation using a data‑driven approach. You will engage with clients to design and implement data solutions that integrate with internal systems and business processes.

Your Role In a Nutshell
  • Define a data architecture that satisfies all stakeholders and aligns with the enterprise wide strategy.
  • Build and maintain Enterprise Architecture artefacts such as ER models, data dictionary, ETL/ELT definitions and data lineage models.
  • Be accountable to the client for architecture rationale and detailed solutions.
  • Define governance methods to ensure ongoing integrity of architectural artefacts.
  • Advocate for data security principles and embed appropriate security practices in any strategy.
  • Define standards for data modelling to ensure consistency within the solution and across the enterprise.
  • Evaluate APIs by analysing documentation and sample responses.
  • Analyse candidate data sources for content, timeliness, and integrity.
  • Reverse‑engineer data models from live systems.
  • Create agile stories for implementation and support the engineering team during development.
  • Support third‑party suppliers in developing specifications that ensure compatibility.
  • Support integration and reconciliation testing.
  • Visualise insights using industry‑standard reporting tools.
Skills and Experience
  • Proven experience defining data architectures for multiple stakeholder groups.
  • Deep knowledge of data lake and data warehousing principles and hands‑on experience with major platforms such as Snowflake or Databricks
    .
  • Experience across one or more cloud services (AWS, Azure, GCP).
  • Good understanding of role‑based access control and its implementation.
  • Excellent data modelling skills and experience building data warehouses and data marts.
  • Experience migrating data from legacy on‑premises systems to cloud architectures.
  • Knowledge of OLTP and OLAP principles and evidence of building such solutions.
  • Evidence of managing the evolution of entity‑relationship models, data dictionaries, and ELT/ETL models.
  • Ability to visualise outputs with tools such as Power BI (including custom DAX) or Tableau
    .
  • High proficiency in SQL; knowledge of SQL Server, SSMS, SSIS, SSRS is a bonus.
  • Ability to make API test calls using tools such as Postman.

Hippo Locations

Headquartered in Leeds with offices in Glasgow, Manchester, Birmingham, London and Bristol. Candidates must be located within reasonable travel distance of one of our offices, with flexibility for on‑site work or client visits as required. We provide a generous relocation support package of up to £8k.

Pay: £57,000.00 – £72,000.00 per year
