Senior Project Manager - Data Centre Construction

Turner & Townsend’s Industrial, Sciences and Technology team in Leeds is expanding its Data Centre practice and is looking for a Senior Project Manager to support large‑scale, ground‑up data centre construction projects for prominent technology clients across the UK.

• Advising at a strategic level during the project conception stage, including evaluating different approaches to achieve the client’s overall objectives.
• Leading the establishment of overall success criteria for the project, covering time, cost, technical and performance parameters.
• Planning and managing quality, safety, health and environmental issues throughout the project.
• Establishing effective project governance, processes and systems to be used across the project.
• Planning, including ensuring the production of a detailed project plan.
• Advising on the procurement of resources.
• Leading and facilitating the cross‑functional project team.
• Monitoring and applying performance management techniques, including KPIs to improve project performance.
• Managing the change control process.
• Monitoring and advising on project finances.
• Managing the flow of project information between the team and the client through regular meetings and written communications.
• Ensuring the production of formal project progress and other reports.
• Taking a leading role in interfacing with the client and other consultants at all project stages.

• Staff management (where appropriate)
• Knowledge management – ensuring key information and learning from each project is entered into Turner & Townsend’s internal database.
• Financial management – ensuring prompt client invoicing and using FMS to monitor the project’s financial status.
• Process improvement – identifying and acting on ways to improve internal systems and processes.

• Key technical competencies:
  Data Centre Design and Development, Data Centre Management, Data Centre Construction, Construction Engineering, Tenant Liaison/coordination.
• Construction consultancy experience strongly preferred.
• 5‑10 years of project management experience, preferably within the digital/data‑centre environment.
• Professional qualification in construction, project management, engineering or architecture.
• Thorough understanding of the complete project life‑cycle, from conception through operational stages to completion and post‑project review.
• Excellent knowledge and experience of all main project management concepts, tools, and techniques.
• Design, management or construction experience in the general construction sector, ideally residential, office, fit‑outs and health & education.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
