We are recruiting for a Transport Planner to join a busy and well-established transport operation based in Leeds. This role is key to ensuring the safe, efficient, and cost-effective planning of daily transport activities while maintaining high standards of service, compliance, and performance.

The Role

As Transport Planner, you will be responsible for coordinating day-to-day transport operations, supporting driver management, and ensuring legal, safety, and customer requirements are consistently met. You’ll work closely with internal teams and external transport providers to ensure smooth and efficient delivery performance.

Key Responsibilities

* Plan and coordinate daily transport operations to ensure safety, efficiency, and service levels are achieved

* Support the management of drivers in line with company policies and procedures

* Ensure compliance with transport legislation, health & safety, and environmental standards

* Monitor transport performance and update KPIs, driving continuous improvement initiatives

* Ensure quality procedures are followed and raise NCRs where required

* Prioritise and resource transport activities to meet customer delivery requirements

* Deliver driver training as required, including safety and compliance-related training

* Build effective working relationships with commercial and internal teams

* Manage driver holiday planning and absence cover

* Raise purchase orders for transport suppliers, including agency drivers and third-party hauliers

The Ideal Candidate

Essential:

* Good understanding of road transport operations and legislation

* Practical knowledge of EHS requirements relating to HGV and transport operations

* Experience conducting risk assessments and creating safe systems of work

* Understanding of employment legislation in a supervisory or operational environment

* Strong communication skills, both written and verbal

* Good IT skills, including Microsoft Excel and email

* Knowledge of warehousing and distribution operations

* A continuous improvement mindset with experience improving operational performance

Desirable:

* Experience using transport planning systems (e.g. Paragon, Roadrunner)

* Knowledge of vehicle telematics systems

* Understanding of fuel-efficient driving techniques
