Road Freight Operator – European & International Freight

Location :
Leeds

Hours :
Full-time, 37.5 hours per week

Salary :
Competitive + Annual Bonus

Holiday : 25 days + bank holidays

We are seeking an experienced Road Freight Operator with strong knowledge of European, international, and groupage road freight to join our clients close-knit team.

This is a hands‑on operational role that involves end-to-end management of road freight shipments across Europe. You’ll be working in a busy, fast‑paced environment, coordinating deliveries, liaising with overseas partners, managing documentation, and ensuring excellent customer service throughout.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan and manage groupage, full loads, and express deliveries to and from European destinations
  • Liaise with round‑trip drivers and source one‑way international equipment
  • Negotiate with international and domestic hauliers to secure transport
  • Maintain regular contact with overseas agents and partners
  • Allocate domestic collections / deliveries to in‑house teams and third‑party hauliers
  • Handle customer queries and provide accurate operational updates
  • Manage KPIs for major clients
  • Handle customs formalities including export / import declarations, GVMS, and NCTS
  • Provide spot quotations and charge files for invoicing
  • Support and oversee a Junior Operator
  • Complete data entry and documentation accurately and efficiently
Requirements
  • Demonstrated experience in European road freight operations
  • Strong knowledge of groupage and full load planning
  • In‑depth understanding of customs procedures and international freight documentation
  • Familiarity with the import / export market
  • Strong administrative skills with attention to detail
  • Excellent communication and relationship‑building skills
  • Commercially aware and customer‑focused
  • Full UK driving licence (ideal due to location)
