Position: Assistant Financial Accountant -12m FTC

We currently have an exciting opportunity for an Assistant Financial Accountant to support the Senior Financial Accountants and assist with month‑end. The Financial Accounting team takes responsibility for the company's financial accounting function, property accounting, fixed assets, statutory reporting, group accounting, tax and treasury. This role is offered on a 12‑month fixed term contract.

Responsibilities
  • Work with Senior Financial Accountants and the finance team to ensure that key financial accounting processes are applied appropriately and information is available in a timely fashion.
  • Support the insurance renewal processes.
  • Manage and execute daily and monthly treasury operations.
  • Prepare and post the monthly payroll journal ensuring accuracy and timely reflection in the general ledger.
  • Allocate and recharge payroll costs to appropriate entities within the group.
  • Prepare and submit the pay‑as‑you‑earn settlement agreement (PSA) ensuring timely and accurate reporting.
  • Prepare and submit VAT returns accurately and on time.
  • Complete all necessary regulatory submissions related to goods entering Northern Ireland.
  • Perform monthly management accounting responsibilities.
  • Prepare monthly balance sheet accounts and ensure that all key balance sheet control accounts are reconciled and approved on a monthly basis.
  • Keep Senior Financial Accountants and the Financial Controller well informed of the company's financial position and support with other ad‑hoc tasks.
  • Ensure appropriate processes exist within the finance team to identify key areas of risk and agree with the Senior Financial Accountants on plans to manage those risks.
  • Work with auditors and external parties to ensure that core accounting controls are appropriate and consistently implemented.
Qualifications
  • Part‑qualified accountant.
  • Interest in technical accounting and a desire to develop in this area.
  • Good communication skills in one‑to‑one and group environments.
  • Desire to broaden skill set across the wider Financial Accounting team.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, including Pivot Tables and formulas such as VLOOKUP, HLOOKUP and SUMIF.
Desirable Skills
  • Knowledge and experience of Microsoft Dynamics.
  • Experience liaising with external providers such as banks and auditors.
  • Good working knowledge of accounting systems and monthly accounts process – general ledger, purchase ledger, sales ledger, balance sheet reconciliations, reporting.
