The Digital and Technology Directorate plays a central role in reshaping how the university delivers digital value. We are modernising our services through cloud adoption, reduction of technical debt, and the implementation of a product operating model, still novel in higher education but increasingly vital to public sector innovation. Our approach combines agile delivery with operational excellence, ensuring services are both resilient and user focused.
From AI and automation to endpoint management and cyber security, the Directorate is focused on creating future‑ready services that support academic and professional excellence.
You will lead the design, implementation, and optimisation of hybrid cloud and on‑premises platform infrastructure, ensuring platform resilience, scalability, and IT security while mentoring other team members. The role will oversee delivery of key infrastructure projects, act as a technical escalation point, and ensure successful delivery, infrastructure monitoring, backup and disaster recovery.
Key Responsibilities- Design, development and administration of scalable and resilient hybrid cloud platforms integrating legacy systems with cloud infrastructure that support the operation of modern applications.
- Delivery of key infrastructure projects, private cloud integration, high performance compute configurations and a full infrastructure refresh investment in our on‑premises element of our hybrid cloud configuration.
- Extensive experience in managing and maintaining complex IT platforms, pipelines, and infrastructure. Key technologies are servers (Windows/Linux), virtualization (VMware), storage (Net App) and IT security across a large‑scale, business‑critical environment.
- Advanced technical experience of cloud platforms and hybrid cloud infrastructure, including deployment, management, and integration with on‑premise systems. Ideally Microsoft Azure.
- Proven track record in the design, implementation, and management of secure, scalable platform services, including both on‑premises and cloud‑based infrastructures, with a focus on resilience, performance and security.
- Experience leading platform‑related projects from concept to delivery, including requirements gathering, solution design, testing, deployment, and post‑implementation support, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives and KPIs.
- Demonstrated experience in service monitoring and performance optimisation, proactively identifying areas for improvement and making necessary adjustments to ensure efficient and effective service delivery.
- Infrastructure as Code (IaC) deployments and configuration management using tools such as Terraform & Bicep.
- Experience working within the Higher Education sector.
- Technical understanding of network technologies.
