About the Programme

Our 4‑year Electrical Manufacturing Apprenticeship is a great way to kick‑start your career in engineering. Working alongside experienced professionals, you will learn how to build and test the electrical systems that support some of the most critical work we do.

As part of our workshop team, you will be involved in everything from assembling and wiring electrical components to testing systems and learning how to spot faults before they become problems. You will use a variety of hand and power tools and develop your understanding of how different systems work. Every day brings something new. You could be based in the workshop assembling and wiring components, or supporting the testing and inspection of equipment before it is delivered to customers.

As your experience grows, there may also be opportunities to visit customer sites and see how the systems you have helped build are used in real‑world environments.

Throughout your apprenticeship, safety will be central to everything you do. You will learn how to apply best practice manufacturing and testing techniques while being guided and supported by colleagues who want to see you succeed.

It is a practical, rewarding role that builds real‑world skills for a meaningful future.

Your Education / Training

You will study for the Level 3 Engineering Fitter Apprenticeship Standard through Loughborough College. Training will take place one day per week during term time, with regular reviews with your college assessor and workplace mentor. Progress reviews will occur every 12 weeks, providing opportunities for feedback, professional discussions, and practical assessments both in college and on site.

Future Prospects

By the end of your apprenticeship, you will be ready to take on the role of Electrical Manufacturing Technician. You will have competent technical and practical skills to work safely and effectively on real engineering projects. Upon programme completion you can expect to earn a competitive salary exceeding £33,000. Career development will continue through the Babcock Role Framework, providing mapped‑out pathways, development opportunities, and tools to progress your career.
