The Facility Services Department provides quality building environments for city employees and citizens across a wide variety of business service areas, from administration and operations to leisure facilities. We combine expert knowledge with a focus on the comfort, safety and functional requirements of building users. The Department is seeking an experienced Facilities Engineer to play a key role in ensuring safe, efficient and functional facilities are available to our partners and users.

Key Responsibilities Design and Analysis
  • Design and professionally authenticate new or revised building systems and control sequences of operation.
  • Monitor building system performance, analyze trend data to verify the effectiveness of programming and set‑point changes.
  • Develop design standards and recommendations.
  • Produce feasibility reports.
Document Management
  • Document key engineering information related to the design and operation of building systems.
  • Compile, create and maintain accurate records of building system descriptions, control system sequences of operation, schematic system diagrams, recommended operating set‑points and any other related information.
Project Management
  • Manage the implementation of assigned mechanical and electrical projects through planning, procurement, design, construction and post‑construction stages, ensuring scope, budget and schedule requirements are met.
  • Coordinate planning, design and construction with facility stakeholders and operators, including community groups, organisations and grant‑faring agencies where applicable.
  • Manage multiple projects of varying scope and complexity at any given time. Adjust prioritisation as required.
Other Duties
  • Provide technical advice/assistance to the department’s technical and project‑management staff.
  • Lead commissioning and re‑commissioning activities.
  • Review monthly utility data and monitor the output performance of the city’s solar photovoltaic systems.
  • Perform other duties related to the department’s service delivery as required.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Undergraduate degree in mechanical or electrical engineering, and a minimum of five years of related experience in the building industry, preferably in design consulting or project management with progressively increasing responsibility.
  • Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with APEGA.
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s licence.
  • Experience and knowledge of the construction process and ability to communicate effectively with project managers, maintenance staff, consultants, contractors and building occupants.
  • Comprehensive understanding of building mechanical and electrical equipment and systems, and how they interrelate.
  • Knowledge of government legislation and industry standards related to building mechanical and electrical systems (e.g., building codes).
  • Strong interpersonal, leadership and team‑building skills with the ability to motivate others.
  • Excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills.
  • Proficiency with MS Office.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Willingness to stay current with relevant industry best practices and standards.
Additional Requirements
  • Applicants must submit a copy of their post‑secondary credentials and APEGA standing.
  • The incumbent must use their personal vehicle to travel throughout the City and maintain appropriate insurance coverage for this purpose.
  • The incumbent may occasionally need to work beyond regular hours and on weekends.
  • Short‑listed candidates may be required to pass a Police Information Check (PIC).

Interviewed candidates will be required to complete a written test following the interview. The test will assess technical knowledge, analytical and problem‑solving skills and communication skills.
