Environmental Technician – WSP Canada

Our dynamic team is growing, and we have a new opportunity for an Environmental Technician to work in a multi-disciplinary team that solves complex issues for our clients throughout Alberta. The position is with the Remediation Program Management (RPM) team, which has offices across Canada.

Responsibilities
  • Planning, coordination, and supervision of field programs and ground disturbance activities.
  • Preparing reports following each program.
  • Maintaining work‑life balance, logging in remotely or attending the office in a hybrid work solution of 3 days a week.
  • Clearly identifying and understanding project objectives, bringing ideas and solutions to project managers and mentors.
  • Supporting the development and improvement of project health and safety plans guided by the Zero Harm policy and rigorous HSE standards.
  • Participating as a member of a 14‑person region‑specific delivery team while leveraging the experience and expertise of the entire 270‑person RPM group.
  • Mentoring junior staff in environmental practices including Phase 1 and 2 ESAs, drilling, surveying, groundwater sampling, oversight of remediation and reclamation, and on‑site health and safety.
  • Executing fieldwork occasionally in remote locations.
Qualifications
  • College diploma or degree in natural/earth sciences or a related field.
  • Minimum of 4 years of field experience in contaminated site assessments and/or the environmental industry.
  • Sound understanding of the need for health and safety procedures in the workplace and a safety‑conscious attitude.
  • Strong field experience and willingness to work effectively as a team.
  • Technical ability to troubleshoot and brainstorm to ensure that the environmental data collected meets project objectives.
  • Outstanding communication and organization skills, with an ability to successfully balance field and office responsibilities.
  • Experience in conducting ground disturbance assessments at active oil and gas facilities.
  • An interest in continuing to do fieldwork to varying degrees throughout the calendar year for the next several years; expect 60 % or more of your year to involve fieldwork.
  • A professional designation or a professional in training with an applicable scope of practice is preferred.
  • Experience working in remote and camp settings, northern and territorial regions is a strong asset.
