Your Contribution to NRSINRSI is looking for motivated, independent individuals to conduct field monitoring activities, primarily conducting wildlife mortality searches at operating wind or solar energy facilities across Alberta.
Locations- Medicine Hat (2–4 positions)
- Lethbridge (up to 2 positions)
- Red Deer (1 position)
- Edmonton (up to 2 positions)
We offer two position types with different work hour expectations.
- Position I involves multiple days of fieldwork (3–4 days per week).
- Position II involves limited days of fieldwork (0–2 days per week).
- Taking well‑organized and detailed field notes.
- Communicating frequently and as required with project managers, other field staff, and clients.
- Safely collecting and handling bird and bat carcasses.
- Occasional assistance with other field‑ or office‑related tasks.
- Conducting walking searches for bird or bat carcasses according to a strict schedule.
- For some roles, driving a 4WD vehicle on rough roads.
- A post‑secondary degree or diploma, or high school diploma.
Job Requirements
- Willing and able to work under inclement weather, on a variety of environmental and vegetation conditions, for long hours, and occasionally on holidays or weekends.
- Physically fit to walk for several hours each day in potentially challenging terrain.
- Demonstrated interest in wildlife and the environment, including the desire to pursue a career in this field.
- A good work ethic and positive attitude, dependability, flexibility, and excellent communication.
- Ability to work independently on a regular basis.
- Demonstrated accuracy and attention to detail, including maintaining well‑organized and detailed field notes.
- A valid driver’s licence and over 18 years of age to drive a rental vehicle.
- Able to safely drive on rough roads and terrain.
- Current Standard First Aid and CPR certification.
- Able to reliably commute to the field work location on a regular basis by the start date.
- Experience in the identification of birds and/or bats by sight.
- Experience driving a 4WD vehicle on rough roads.
- Experience conducting wildlife surveys, soil assessments, vegetation inventories, or delineating vegetation communities using standard survey protocols.
- A reliable personal vehicle insured for work purposes with at least $2 million in liability insurance (authorized mileage will be reimbursed).

LocationProject sites in Alberta near Medicine Hat, Lethbridge, Red Deer, and Edmonton. Relocation or accommodation costs will not be reimbursed for primary job duties.
Salary$22.00–$25.00 per hour, commensurate with experience.
Estimated number of hours per week, including authorized travelPosition type 1: 32–40 hours per week
Position type 2: 0–25 hours per week
