Salary: £35,000 – £45,000 per annum (dependent on experience)

About Axis BioservicesAxis Bioservices is a Northern Ireland-based contract research organisation (CRO) supporting pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and medical device companies worldwide. We provide advanced assay development, pre‑clinical testing, and laboratory services designed to meet the highest scientific standards. We are expanding our expertise into cellular immunology and therapeutic evaluation and are looking for an experienced scientist to join the team.
The RoleWe are seeking a motivated Senior Scientist with a background in immunology or cell biology to lead laboratory projects. You will design and deliver experiments assessing immune cell function and therapeutic effects, help develop new assays, and mentor junior scientists. This is an excellent opportunity to work in a collaborative, innovative setting supporting cutting‑edge healthcare research.
Key Responsibilities- Lead and manage cell‑based immunology projects for internal R&D and client work.
- Design, optimise, and validate assays to measure immune cell activity and responses.
- Ensure results are delivered accurately, on time, and in compliance with internal procedures.
- Train and mentor junior staff in relevant skills and techniques.
- Present findings to clients and stakeholders in written and verbal formats.
- PhD in Immunology, Cellular Biology or a related discipline (or equivalent industry experience).
- Practical experience in working with immune or other human/animal primary cells.
- Confident in immune cell culture techniques (primary cells and cell lines) and a range of immunology assays, such as cytokine measurement, T‑cell activation or proliferation assays, cytotoxicity assays, and immune cell profiling by flow cytometry.
- Experience in experimental design, optimisation, and troubleshooting of molecular assays.
- Strong organisational and project management skills.
- Experience in cancer immunology, translational immunology, or therapeutic evaluation.
- Experience working in a CRO, biotech, or pharmaceutical environment.
- Evidence of mentoring or training team members.
- Scientific outputs such as publications or conference presentations.
- £35,000 – £45,000 per annum (commensurate with experience)
