What you'll be doing
Balfour Beatty Living Places has created an exciting opportunity for a Senior Quantity Surveyor to join our Living Places business unit in Lincoln.
Role Purpose
• Manage all costs related to building and civil engineering projects, from initial calculations to final figures.
• Minimise project costs and enhance value for money while maintaining standards and quality.
• Typically, be a Chartered Member of RICS, ICES, or CIOB.
• Manage and mentor a small team of less experienced commercial staff.
Main Accountabilities:
- Order information and systematically check data.
- Critically appraise, estimate, and negotiate with third parties.
- Review complex contract programmes such as Time-Location.
- Assist with the preparation of delay and disruption programmes.
- Monitor subcontract activities, measure, and respond appropriately.
- Analyze commercial progress and report to senior project staff.
- Manage commercial aspects with customers and stakeholders.
- Prepare procurement programmes and develop strategies.
- Analyze rates & prices, and agree on variations and compensation events.
- Prepare, submit, and negotiate claims when required.
- Prepare internal reports, commercial progress, and financial reconciliations.
- Manage HR/People aspects for direct and indirect reports.
- Support the development of others through professional mentoring.
- Produce plans for team goal achievement.
- Support recruitment of lower grades.
- Undertake constructability analyses using construction programmes.
Qualifications &
Experience:
- BSc or MSc in Quantity Surveying or equivalent experience.
- Membership of RICS, ICES, or CIOB (or working towards).
