Job Brief

This position is responsible for assisting in the transportation of the City’s plow trucks, buses and other small-to-medium sized Public Works vehicles and equipment.

    Full-time up to 3 months. Normal Working Hours are 40 hours per week with core working hours between 6:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. May be required to work additional hours: day, afternoon, evening, and weekend hours.
  • Other:
    Combination of general shop environment and off site travel. Work in all weather conditions, including prolonged periods of heat, rain or snow, while respecting safe work practices. Attend various locations throughout the day moving vehicles and equipment between designated locations. Ability to exert up to 22.2 kg (50 lbs) of force occasionally, and/or up to 8.9 kg (20 lbs) of force frequently, and/or up to 4.4 kg (10 lbs) of force constantly to move objects.
Essential

Duties
  • Facilitate the transportation of vehicles and equipment for servicing and repairs in coordination with management and team members
  • Operate a variety of equipment including, but not limited to: towing and recovery equipment, dump truck, front end loader, forklift, skid steer, truck and trailer in; fuel City vehicles and equipment, as required; report any maintenance issues to management
  • Maintain electronic reports and monitor/respond to work order management system requests and scheduling
  • Working with team members, contractors/suppliers, participate in the planning of equipment movement and supply pick up
  • Perform minor repairs including, but not limited to: boosting batteries, flat tire changes, greasing equipment or parts, propane refill, wheel and tire mounting; balancing and torqueing; hoisting and rigging
  • Assist with part and product pick-ups and deliveries; communicate status and drop-off times to department stakeholders
  • Assist with the upkeep of a clean work environment by disposing of garbage, cleaning shop floor and shop exterior, as needed
  • Provide Fleet Depot yard and winter maintenance including, but not limited to: snow plowing and snow removal using assigned equipment, as necessary (i.e. sidewalk and pickup truck snowplow, front end loader)
Member of the Operational Team
  • Keep daily time sheets, equipment log sheets and hours of work log sheets for supervisor review and approval
  • Follow prescribed health and safety procedures including wearing personal protective equipment
  • Administer defined procedures and recommend solutions to challenges or process improvements
  • Work collaboratively with others to deliver the outcomes as defined; report any challenges to supervisor and/or manager
  • Respond to customer service concerns; participating in problem solving and providing information to crew lead and/or supervisor, as appropriate
  • Maintain documentation, databases and corporate records in accordance with policy and divisional practice; consider legislative municipal requirements such as the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (MFIPPA)

Qualifications
  • Secondary school diploma
  • Minimum one (1) year of related experience, preferably in a municipal environment
  • Possess and maintain a valid Ontario Class “A” Driver’s Licence with “Z” endorsement and acceptable driving record
  • Ability to read and understand current legislation as it pertains to the Occupational Health and Safety Act , City’s Commercial Vehicle Operators (CVOR), Highway Traffic Act , City policies, procedures and applicable legislation
  • Demonstrated knowledge and ability to safely and competently operate loaders, tractors and other equipment
  • Demonstrated knowledge of vehicle and equipment maintenance and repairs
