We are currently recruiting for On‑Call Firefighters at Liskeard Community Fire Station – join our team!

About the Role

On‑Call Firefighters have everyday lives and jobs until their alert sounds and they become professional Firefighters, responding to a range of operational incidents when required. Being a Firefighter is not just about fighting fires. An important part of today's service is fire and road safety prevention, education and safeguarding. When an emergency does occur, our Firefighters are fully trained and equipped to deal with a range of emergencies.

On‑Call Firefighters make up approximately 90% of emergency cover in the UK, which makes them an invaluable part of our society. You don’t need any previous firefighting experience – just the passion to protect and help your community.

Contract Summary

Weekly contracted hours and corresponding banding hours are discussed with station management during the initial interview.

  • 45 hours – 31-60
  • 75 hours – 61-90
  • 105 hours – 91-119
  • 120+ hours – 120
What You’ll Need to Succeed
  • Be available to respond within five minutes of your nearest station
  • Be at least 18 years old at the start of employment (you can apply before then)
  • No unspent criminal convictions at the time you start employment (unspent convictions at the time of application can be discussed)
  • Have the right to work in the UK
  • Be able to drive at the start of employment (you can apply before you have a licence)
  • Have good eyesight to meet visual standards
  • Have a good level of strength and fitness – able to reach level 8.8 on the bleep test
  • Have a good grasp of Maths and English. You do not need formal qualifications but you will undertake NFCC written tests in these subjects

This position will be subject to a standard criminal record disclosure check.
