Specialist Speech and Language Therapist
Job Summary: A fabulous opportunity has arisen for a Speech and Language Therapist (SLT) to be part of a specialist mental health service across Liverpool. We are looking for a dysphagia‑trained SLT with a passion for patient‑centred care to work in older people’s Community Mental Health Teams and Inpatient Care. The position is based at Leigh Moss Hospital. The CMHT is a multidisciplinary team comprising psychologists, occupational therapists, nurses, psychiatrists, physiotherapists, speech and language therapists and support staff.
Job Responsibilities- Assess and treat adults with complex health needs including dysphagia, dysfluency, voice, head and neck disorders.
- Deliver evidence‑based speech and language therapy interventions in inpatient, home, care home or outpatient settings.
- Act as a care coordinator, ensuring clients access necessary generic services.
- Manage own caseload, write and review care plans.
- Prioritise waiting list for speech and language therapy.
- Complete intake assessments and provide feedback to the multidisciplinary team.
- Collaborate with professionals, day‑centre staff, residential staff and families; give clinical advice on communication needs.
- Provide specialist knowledge on alternative and augmentative communication systems.
- Allocate work and supervise speech and language therapy assistants.
- Deliver training to staff on communication strategies and management plans.
- Deputise for the clinical lead and coordinate caseload during absences.
- Participate in service improvement activities and promote innovation.
- Accredited Speech and Language Therapy qualification (BSc).
- Registration with the HCPC.
- Member of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT).
- Post‑graduate training or qualification in dysphagia.
- Philosophy and approach that empowers people.
- Knowledge of alternative and augmentative communication and dysphagia.
- Person‑centred service delivery.
- Understanding of current NHS changes.
- Experience working in multidisciplinary teams.
- Experience supervising and delegating to junior staff.
- Use of outcome measures for clinical evaluation.
- Basic IT skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, MS Teams).
- Direct experience with adults with communication and swallowing disorders.
- Experience in inter‑agency working.
- Experience designing and delivering staff training.
- Experience using iPads and other technology to support communication.
- Experience facilitating groups.

Position:
Band 6, Permanent, Full‑time. Salary: £38,682 to £46,580 per annum (pro‑rata). Working pattern:
Full‑time.
