Associate Practitioner Haematology

The post holder will act aswhy? – an Associate Practitioner within the Blood Sciences Group, supporting state registered Biomedical Scientists in analytical procedures that assist with the diagnosis and treatment of patients. This role involves operating and maintaining highly complex automated analysers, executing manual and semi‑automated procedures, and contributing to the laboratory’s quality management system.

• Perform a comprehensive range of routine and specialist Biochemistry and Haematology analyses under supervision.
• Assist Biomedical Scientists in both non‑automated and core/automated laboratories on rotation.
• Carry out specialist manual and semi‑automated procedures under supervision.
• Maintain complex analytical equipment in optimum condition, respond to failures, and liaise with engineers when necessary.
• Enter patient demographic information, collate results and input data into laboratory IT systems.
• Use interpersonal skills to liaise effectively with service users to provide the best patient care.

• 2 A Levels/BTEC in science‑based subjects or a HNC in a science‑based subject, or proven equivalent practical experience in a UK clinical laboratory.
• Knowledge of biomedical tests and medical terminologies.
• Familiarity with basic laboratory equipment (e.g., pH meter, centrifuge).
• Health and safety awareness.
• Understanding of the role of medical laboratories and the ability to work to high standards, meeting demanding deadlines.
• Dexterous, numerate, and diligent work ethic.
