Job Description & How to Apply Below
Position: Project Curator: Garstang Museum (Part-Time, Fixed Term)

We have an exciting opportunity for a project curator to join the team at the University of Liverpool within the Libraries, Museums, Galleries Directorate, Cultural Heritage Team, to support accessioning and access to the Garstang collection based at the Garstang Museum of Archaeology, as part of the project team on the AHRC RICHeS Reconstructing the ancient past: digital access and visibility of the Garstang distributed collection.

John Garstang, an archaeologist, founded the Institute of Archaeology at the University of Liverpool in 1904. He built an extensive collection of finds excavated in the ancient Near East, especially Egypt, Sudan, Anatolia, and the southern Levant. Through his excavations, Garstang’s collections were distributed to over a hundred institutions across the world. This distribution is being identified and recorded as part of the AHRC RICHeS project at the University, reuniting objects, increasing usability and accessibility in research, and addressing colonial acquisition practice.

We are looking for a project curator to work as part of the project team to support accessioning of finds from Garstang’s excavations, facilitate research visits and enquiries, and work closely with the project archivist to ensure standardised metadata and links made for deeper exploration of the collection.

For an informal conversation about the role contact Gina Criscenzo Laycock, Curator of the Garstang Museum and Co‑Principal Investigator on the RICHeS project, ‘Reconstructing the ancient past: digital access and visibility of the Garstang distributed collection’ via

This post is fixed‑term for 12 months. Interviews are anticipated to be held on 30 January 2026, subject to change.
