Job Summary
This post is a Fixed Term/Secondment for 12 months until 31/01/2027. If you are a Hywel Dda University Health Board employee and are applying for this post as a secondment, agreement for the secondment is needed from your current manager prior to application. Applications are invited from enthusiastic and motivated HCPC Registered Biomedical Scientists to work within the UKAS accredited Blood Sciences Department at Prince Philip Hospital, Llanelli.
MainDuties
The refurbished and modernised laboratory provides acute and routine primary and secondary care services in Biochemistry, Haematology, Immunology, Coagulation and Transfusion. The Haematology, Coagulation and Transfusion sections are currently equipped with Siemens Advia 2120, ACLTOP
350 and Ortho Vison Swift analysers.
The individual should possess the IBMS Specialist portfolio and sufficient post‑registration experience to undertake a specialist role within the Haematology Section. The successful candidate will be expected to effectively communicate information, advice, instruction and professional opinion to colleagues and Pathology Service users in both primary and secondary care.

- Hons. degree in Biomedical Science/Life Science
- Specialist Diploma or equivalent
- HCPC Registration
- Evidence of CPD
- Knowledge of Pathology Quality Assurance
- Prior experience as a Registered Biomedical Scientist
- Indepth knowledge of complex laboratory instrumentation
- Technical ability to troubleshoot, repair, advise or provide in‑depth information relevant to speciality
- Welsh Speaker (level
1) – desirable
