StructuralBuilding Design Technologist

SBM is seeking an entry to mid-level Structural/Architectural Drafter/Designer

Reporting to the Structural Design & Drafting Employee Lead, the successful candidate will assist in the Revit & CAD design of various projects, both architectural and structural, attend meetings and compile information for upcoming projects.

SBM is an established multi-disciplinary Planning, Civil, Structural, Mechanical and Electrical Engineering firm that utilizes a team-first collaborative approach to building engineering. SBM has offices in London and Kitchener, providing engineering services to a variety of private and public sector clients across Southwestern Ontario.

The firm employs over 140 engineers, engineering trainees, technologists, technicians, planners and administrative personnel.

• Structural & Architectural drafting and design for small/medium sized commercial buildings
• Prepare structural & architectural drawings for projects from design through working drawings
• Complete full sets of structural engineering/design drawings for permit application
• Other tasks as assigned by Senior Engineers/Techs, Team Lead or Division Manager

• Graduate of Architectural Technology Diploma Program or equivalent
• Proficiency with Revit, AutoCAD and Microsoft Office programs required; experience in Revit considered an asset
• Experience with rendering software such as Twinmotion considered an asset
• 2–5 years relevant work experience in Structural/Architectural drafting and Revit/AutoCAD design
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
• In-depth knowledge of the Ontario Building Code as well as understanding of zoning and municipal design requirements considered an asset
• Knowledge of various structural framing types and understanding of a building’s structural system considered an asset
• Knowledge of construction materials and practices
• Ability to interpret structural design markups and apply critical thinking to accurately convey the information on a set of structural engineering/design drawings
• Experience preparing accurate working drawings for permit application
• Ability to coordinate multiple projects and work in a fast-paced environment
• Ability to work both independently and in a team environment
• Commitment to ongoing professional and personal growth; willingness to learn
• Excellent problem-solving skills and initiative
• Working towards
  
  C. Tech. BCIN or other professional designation considered an asset
• Access to vehicle for site review/inspections considered an asset

This is a full-time position with a competitive salary and annual performance bonus. The salary range for this position is $52,500 to $67,000 annually depending on experience and qualifications. SBM offers a positive work environment and a good relationship with our employees that translates directly to better customer service and a superior finished product for our clients. The successful candidate typically works 8 AM – 5 PM Monday to Thursday and 8 AM – 2:30 PM on Fridays.
