Wage $21.03 - $25.04 (Band
3) (2025 rates under review)
Hours 35 to 40 hours per week. Must be willing to work weekends and statutory holidays. Schedule varies from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Title: By-Law Enforcement Officer (seasonal)
Position Overview- The seasonal By-Law Enforcement Officer is responsible for enforcing municipal parking regulations to ensure the safe, fair, and lawful use of parking spaces within the Municipality of Central Elgin. This role involves patrolling assigned areas, issuing parking violations, educating the public on parking rules, and assisting the by-law department when possible.
- Patrol designated areas by foot or vehicle to monitor parking compliance.
- Issue tickets for parking violations, including expired meters, unauthorized parking in accessible spaces, and other infractions.
- Identify and report abandoned or illegally parked vehicles.
- Assist the Manager of By-Law Enforcement with other By-law duties as required.
- Respond to public inquiries and provide clear information.
- Handle complaints professionally, directing unresolved issues to appropriate departments.
- Maintain accurate records of tickets issued, patrol routes, and incidents encountered.
- Prepare and submit reports on parking enforcement activities as required.
- Ensure enforcement activities are carried out in accordance with municipal regulations and safety guidelines.
- Identify potential hazards in parking areas and report them for resolution.
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional coursework in law enforcement or by-law enforcement is an asset.
- Holds a valid Class G driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Knowledge of municipal parking regulations and by-laws or willingness to learn.
- Excellent communication and conflict resolution skills.
- Ability to work independently and make decisions under pressure.
- Proficient in the use of technology for record keeping and enforcement.
- Physical ability to walk or stand for extended periods and work outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Provide courteous and professional customer service with a positive and respectful approach.
