POSITION
DESCRIPTION:
Under the supervision of a Pharmacist, the Registered Pharmacy Technician assists in various technical tasks, including medication consultation, drug dispensing, computer drug order entry, distribution of narcotic drugs, drug bulk compounding, chemotherapy preparation, TPN preparation, drug pre-packaging, ward stock drug replacement, drug deliveries and sterile drug product preparation.
HOURS:
The successful candidate must be available to work all tours applicable to the department. In addition, this position must be flexible to occasional changes in hours when required to meet the operational needs of the department and be able to commit to the non-availability requirements of the applicable Collective Agreement.
SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
REQUIRED:
Completion of an accredited Pharmacy Technician program from a recognized post-secondary institution;Current certification in good standing as a Registered Pharmacy Technician (RPhT) with the Ontario College of Pharmacists;Demonstrated accuracy in computer order entry, pharmaceutical arithmetic, and application of pharmaceutical and medical terminology including knowledge of generic and brand name drugs;Experience with computerized order entry systems, preferably Pharmnet applications and Microsoft Office Programs (Word, Excel, Outlook);Preference will be given to those with experience in an acute hospital setting;Ability to work in a very fast-paced and sometimes stressful environment;Experience and ability to demonstrate proficiency in aseptic technique and preparation of sterile dosage forms including adult, pediatric, and neonatal products (TPN and IV add mixtures) preferred;Experience with purchasing and inventory management is a definite asset;Demonstrated ability to work well within a team environment and independently;Excellent interpersonal, communication, problem-solving, organizational and time management skills;Proven ability to follow specific instructions with a high degree of accuracy;Physical ability to perform the duties of the position including moderate lifting and pushing carts;Acceptable attendance in accordance with STEGH's attendance at work program.Successful candidates must provide evidence of having received a full primary series of a COVID-19 vaccine or combination of vaccines authorized by Health Canada, and having received the final dose 14 days before entering STEGH.
