Responsibilities

• Assess need for assistance, such as rehabilitation, financial aid or further training
• Evaluate the effectiveness of counselling and the client’s outcomes
• Interview clients to obtain employment history, educational background and career goals
• Prepare case histories and assess problems
• Refer clients to the appropriate external services
• Identify barriers to employment and assist clients with job readiness skills, job search strategies, résumé writing and interview preparation
• Develop and implement counselling and intervention programs to help clients set and achieve goals
• Administer and interpret tests designed to determine clients’ interests, aptitudes and abilities
• Collect labour‑market information for clients regarding job openings, entry and skill requirements, and other occupational information
• Provide established workers with information and strategies for dealing with job dissatisfaction, mid‑career changes and workplace transitions
• Prepare assessment, progress, follow‑up and court reports
• Liaise with community agencies or partners, identify additional or alternative services and provide referrals
