Job Description

Position: Respite Support Staff

Status: Temporary, full‑time Location: 1340 Dundas Street, London, ON Program Areas: Fee for Service Individualized Supports

Position Summary

Respite Support Staff provide care and support to children, youth, and adults with intellectual disabilities. This role promotes inclusion, well‑being, and safety through person‑centered supports and daily activities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support participants’ physical, emotional, and behavioural needs.
  • Facilitate recreation, leisure, and community inclusion activities as per established goals.
  • Provide direct care, including personal care, medication administration, and behavioural interventions in accordance with agency policies and provide crisis intervention as needed.
  • Communicate effectively with families, caregivers, and team members.
  • Participate in case management and advocate for participant health, safety, and well‑being.
  • Complete required documentation and reports accurately.
  • Transport participants safely in agency vehicles.
  • Support and guide new staff, students, and volunteers.
  • Maintain program spaces, property, and supplies.
Qualifications
  • Diploma in Developmental Services, Child & Youth Work, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • Minimum one year of direct care experience in a social service setting
  • Current First Aid/CPR and Non‑Violent Crisis Intervention certifications
  • Valid Ontario “G” Driver’s License
  • Satisfactory vulnerable sector check including broad record check
  • Strong communication, teamwork, problem‑solving, and documentation skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office;
    French language an asset
Working Conditions
  • Temporary full‑time position based on 35 hours per week
  • Flexibility in scheduling is required to meet program needs; program schedule includes days, afternoons, and weekends.
  • Work is typically in the program space, but community involvement is part of daily activities.
  • Physically active role (lifting up to 50 lbs., standing, bending, and mobility required)
  • May be exposed to disagreeable people, verbal abuse, people with behavioural or mental health challenges.
  • Some travel involved using program vehicles.
  • Normal hours of work
    : rotating shifts and includes a ½ hour paid meal break.
Reporting and Compliance

Reports to the Respite Program Supervisor

All duties are carried out in accordance with The Salvation Army’s Mission, policies, and Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services regulations.

Compensation

The target hiring range for this position is $21.83 to $27.29 with a maximum of $32.75
.

Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
