We are currently in the process of redeveloping the hospital to provide a new state‑of‑the‑art facility for the residents of Hillingdon and beyond. The new hospital will support the very best in the delivery of healthcare and will be fit for our future.

We are seeking a Locum Consultant in Palliative Medicine to replace a retiring colleague. The palliative consultant team is based at THH, but the postholder will focus on community palliative care and routine in‑reach to hospice. Candidates with a subspecialty interest in palliative care for neuro‑degenerative conditions will particularly enjoy this role, but those with broader experience are also encouraged to apply.

The postholder will be a committed clinician with a track record of excellent clinical service delivery, service improvement, teaching, training and other qualities as identified in the person specification. It is a requirement that every doctor takes part in annual job planning and annual appraisal as part of the revalidation cycle.

The post‑holder reports to the Divisional Director of Unplanned Care at The Hillingdon Hospital and their job plan is negotiated annually. It is a 6.5 PA post – 5 PA direct clinical care (DCC) and 1.5 supporting professional activities (SPA). SPA includes clinical supervisor role for GP trainees at hospice, audit and personal CPD. Personal CPD must be completed as part of the annual appraisal which is mandatory for the revalidation process.

The post‑holder will, together with their consultant colleagues and other health care professionals in the Directorate, provide an effective and comprehensive service for patients with palliative care needs and support continuing service development.

The Hillingdon Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is the only acute hospital in the London Borough of Hillingdon, offering a wide range of services including A&E, inpatient care, day surgery, outpatient clinics and maternity services. The Trust’s services at Mount Vernon Hospital include routine day surgery at a modern treatment centre, a minor injuries unit and outpatient clinics.

The safety and well‑being of patients and staff are paramount, and urgent improvements are underway in infection prevention and control. We work in partnership with local GPs, charities, community services, academic partners, the local authority, neighbouring hospitals and the wider North West London Integrated Care System, listening to and collaborating with our local population.

• Full GMC Registration with License to Practice
• MRCP (UK) or equivalent
• On GMC’s specialist registrar or within 6 months of CCT from the date of the interview
• CCT in Palliative Medicine +/- General Internal Medicine (or equivalent)
• Evidence of formal teaching experience
• Higher degree e.g. MD or PhD
• Published works and previous experience of participation in research
• Experience of working in hospice
• Experience of working in the community
