Position: Consultant Psychiatrist - Older Peoples Mental Health

Consultant Psychiatrist - Older Peoples Mental Health

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHS Scotland) seeks a Consultant Psychiatrist to provide comprehensive psychiatric care for individuals over 65 within Wemyss Bay, Greenock and Gourock, covering the western portion of Inverclyde HSCP.

Shift pattern:
Monday‑Friday 9 am‑5 pm with on‑call duties.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage outpatient and inpatient psychiatric care for older adults.
  • Provide clinical leadership across multidisciplinary community and hospital teams.
  • Collaborate with local and regional psychiatrists, participating in case discussions and senior clinician meetings.
  • Deliver teaching sessions for medical students from Glasgow University.
  • Assist in training and development activities, including recognition of trainer status and potential advancement to higher trainer roles.
Qualifications & Requirements
  • Full GMC registration and license to practice.
  • Eligibility for the Specialist Register (CCT or CESR).
  • Experience to act as RMO and AMP under the Mental Health (Care and Treatment) (Scotland) Act 2003.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
Employment Details

The position is a 10‑PA post (8 DCC, 2 non‑DCC), with flexible arrangements and options for less‑than‑full‑time work. On‑call commitment is 1 in 25 (non‑resident) as part of a regional rota.

Facilities & Support

The role is supported by Larkfield Unit (acute and functional/organic wards), Argyll Unit (memory clinic, outpatient and therapy services), and Orchard View (HBCCC). You will work within a multidisciplinary team including nursing, psychology, OT, physiotherapy and administrative staff.
