Locum Consultant in Paediatric Intensivist

Paediatric Critical Care Unit - PICU & HDU

We are looking for a Locum Consultant Paediatric Intensivist to join the Paediatric Critical Care Unit at The Royal London Hospital
, a regional PCCU and Paediatric Major Trauma Centre.

The unit has 10 PCCU beds
, admits around 400 patients per year
, and provides high-acuity intensive care, HDU and trauma services to North East London and Mid-Essex. The PCCU is co-located with paediatric theatres and is fully equipped for advanced ventilation, RRT and complex critical care.

The post is full time (10 PAs; 8.5 DCC / 1.5 SPA) with participation in a 1:7 consultant on-call rota
. There is flexibility within the job plan to support interests in anaesthesia, trauma, research, education or leadership
.

Applicants must be on the GMC Specialist Register for Paediatric Intensive Care Medicine (or within 6 months of CCT) and have appropriate PICM training via GRID

Main duties of the job

Apart from their clinical expertise, the post holder will require many skills including recruitment, training, updating critical care protocols, and liaison with other Paediatric Intensive Care providers as well as with local District General Hospitals. Our aim is to provide comprehensive care for children sensitive to the needs of the local population.

Applicants are expected to be on the specialist Register or within 6 months of receiving their CCT at the time of interview, with GMC registration with a license to practice. Applicants are strongly advised to arrange a visit to the Children's Hospital to discuss the post with members of the PCCU, anaesthetic and paediatric clinical teams.

The Children's Hospital sits within the Children and Young people’s Division at the Royal London Hospital. It is an amalgamation of the children's services formerly based at Queen Elizabeth Children's Hospital in Hackney, at the Royal London Hospital, St Bartholomew's Hospital. It provides services to the local populations of East London and the City. It provides a tertiary referral service for children in the Northeast London, and further afield regionally and nationally.
