Locum Consultant Medical Oncologist – GI

The closing date is 18 January 2026

University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (UCLH) is seeking to appoint a Locum Consultant Medical Oncologist for a 6-month fixed-term post to join our nationally and internationally recognised oncology service. The successful candidate will join a dynamic, multidisciplinary team delivering high-quality, patient‑centred cancer care within Uro‑Oncology. The post will involve the management of patients with urological malignancies, including prostate, bladder, renal, and testicular cancers, with active participation in multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings, outpatient clinics, and inpatient care as required.

Main

duties of the job

The postholder will deliver consultant‑level medical oncology care for patients with gastrointestinal cancers, including the provision of systemic anti‑cancer therapy across inpatient and outpatient settings. The role includes active participation in multidisciplinary team meetings, outpatient clinics, ward rounds and the GI oncology ward rota, as well as contribution to the UCLH on‑call rota. In addition to clinical responsibilities within the GI oncology service, the postholder will provide operational oversight of the Cancer Assessment Unit (CAU), working closely with the AOS Lead and Clinical Lead to develop and implement operational protocols, improve patient flow, and ensure high standards of assessment, treatment and discharge.

The role involves monitoring quality and safety, ensuring adherence to clinical guidelines, and identifying opportunities for service improvement. The postholder will contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate education, including the supervision and training of specialty trainees, and will play an active role in the governance, development and continuous improvement of the wider oncology department. Flexibility is expected to support service evolution, reflecting the complexity and changing nature of GI oncology care, while allowing scope to develop individual clinical, operational and leadership interests.
