About the RoleYou will work towards a Level 3 EAL Subsidiary Diploma in Engineering Technologies, earning over £24,000 a year while you train. The apprenticeship combines courses at our Global Technical Training Centre of Excellence with on‑site training on real transmission equipment in a live substation environment.
After three years you will be qualified to work as a technician in one of our 347 substations. Your day‑to‑day tasks will include maintenance on power transformers, main connections, terminals, circuit breakers, disconnectors, compressors, and auxiliary systems, as well as repairing joints and working with air systems and batteries. All work is carried out under strict safety guidelines.
LocationThis role is based across the North East London region. You will be expected to travel around the region and must live within a 45‑minute drive of the postcode E5 9QY

We’re looking for a driven, proactive candidate with an appetite for continuous improvement. Ideal applicants have:
- Five GCSEs, including Maths and English Language at grade 4/C or above (or equivalent).
- By the end of year one, a UK driving licence.
- Readiness to live away from home during training at our Eakring Training Centre in Nottinghamshire (Monday‑Thursday on site).
- Strong multitasking skills and attention to detail.
- A practical engineering mindset, even if academic grades are modest.

We recruit on a rolling basis and reserve the right to close vacancies once we have enough applications. Assessment centres run between January and April 2026. The apprenticeship is open to all applicants who meet the eligibility criteria and have a valid right to work in the UK.
