Assistant Planner

Penguin Recruitment is delighted to be supporting a well established and respected planning consultancy in their search for an Assistant Planner to join their London based team.

This is an excellent opportunity for an Assistant Planner at an early stage in their career to gain hands-on experience across a wide range of development projects, while working alongside experienced planners in a supportive and collaborative environment. The Assistant Planner role will suit someone keen to build a strong technical foundation and progress toward chartership.

The Role
As an Assistant Planner, you will support senior team members on a variety of planning matters, contributing to the preparation and submission of planning applications and appeals across multiple sectors. The Assistant Planner position offers exposure to development management, planning policy, site appraisals, and client liaison.

Key responsibilities include:

Assisting with the preparation and submission of planning applications and supporting documents

Undertaking planning research and policy analysis

Preparing site appraisals and development assessments

Supporting appeal work and Local Plan representations

Liaising with local authorities, consultants, and clients

Providing general support to the wider planning team on live projects

About You
To be successful as an Assistant Planner, you will ideally have:

A degree or postgraduate qualification in Town Planning or a related discipline

Some professional experience within a planning consultancy or local authority (preferred but not essential)

A good understanding of the UK planning system

Strong written and verbal communication skills

A proactive attitude and willingness to learn

An interest in working towards RTPI accreditation
