The job purpose of a Lead Qualifying Supervisor typically includes the following key responsibilities:
Main tasks/ accountabilities
Maintaining our accreditation with the NICEIC by acting as the main point of contact and ensuring annual auditing is undertaken to a high standard, maintaining compliance with NICEIC scheme rules.
Review and sign off electrical certification and reports (EIC/EICR’s)
Prepare for and host NICEIC assessments, ensuring required evidence is compiled and available.
Client & Stakeholder Collaboration
Act as the primary NICEIC liaison with clients, contractors, and regulatory bodies to ensure that all works are undertaken and certified in line with the requirements of the NICEIC scheme.
External Accreditations
Assist the PDH with NICEIC accreditation, including managing other NICEIC Qualifying Supervisors, ensuring that our annual auditing is completed to a high standard, and maintain our Technical Certificate with the ECA.
Compliance & Quality Assurance
Ensure that Electrical Quality Management is maintained throughout project life cycles. Conduct site inspections and witness testing as required to ensure standards are maintained. Ensure calibration certificate schedules are maintained for all company assets.
LV System Safety and Compliance
Assist the Technical Director with ensuring that LV systems are safe for energisation by overseeing rigorous testing, inspections and safety verifications in accordance with relevant electrical safety regulations and standards.
Technical Governance & Oversight
Provide guidance on relevant statutory and non-statutory regulations as required, including BS 7671, EAWR, Building Regulations, ESQCR. Ensure that specialist systems such as PV/EV/EEES are installed, commissioned and certified in line with industry requirements.
Documentation & Records
Ensure all work is backed by as-built documentation that aligns with certification. Maintain records of all issued EIC/EICR for auditing and compliance purposes.
Training, Competence & Supervision
Define competence requirements and conduct capability assessments as required. Mentor and supervise operatives, apprentices and future QS candidates. Maintain CPD and workforce awareness of BS 7671 updates.
Safety & Operational Leadership
Champion safe systems of work, including specialist testing RAMS / LOTO procedures. Participate in incident investigations and drive preventative measures. Coordinate with our HSW team to ensure compliance with relevant regulations.
Additional Responsibilities
Perform other tasks, duties, and responsibilities appropriate to the role, as required by the Technical Director.
Key Requirements:
Presentable, credible and professional demeanour.
Proven experience in a senior QS role within the building services, construction, or engineering sectors.
Comprehensive knowledge of NICEIC scheme requirements
Comprehensive knowledge of electrical certification process
Comprehensive knowledge of relevant electrical legislation, regulations, and best practices.
Good understanding of electrical protection schemes.
Experience with management of external electrical approving bodies, and maintaining our relevant accreditations, including ensuring that annual auditing is undertaken successfully.
Strong leadership and team management skills, with experience managing direct reports and mentoring.
Personable with strong communication skills and stakeholder management abilities. Ability to interface with all parties from operative to board level to ensure our teams (including our supply chain) are engaged and motivated with Safe Systems of Work
The ability to identify and mitigate risks proactively.
Demonstrated ability to develop and implement strategic initiatives that drive cultural and operational improvements.
Commitment to promoting a positive culture within the company, ensuring compliance with all regulations and actively engaging with stakeholders at all levels to prioritise engineering safety.
