An established organisation within the education sector is seeking a Project Accountant with strong cost control and budgeting expertise to join its finance team. This is a commercially focused role offering broad exposure to project finance, cost optimisation, and stakeholder engagement across multiple projects and entities.

Reporting into the Group Cost Controller, the successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring robust financial governance across projects, delivering clear financial insight, and driving cost efficiency.

Key responsibilities:

  • Manage and maintain project budgets, forecasts, and cost tracking across multiple projects

  • Monitor project expenditure to ensure compliance with budgets and internal controls
  • Partner closely with project managers, FP&A, procurement, and wider finance teams
  • Produce project dashboards and financial insights to support decision‑making
  • Analyse vendor and supplier costs and support cost control initiatives
  • Support audits and contribute to the development and improvement of project accounting processes
  • Assist with ERP project module usage, testing, and rollout where required

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline
  • A professional accounting qualification such as ACCA, CIMA, CPA or equivalent, or be working towards one
  • At least 5 years’ experience in project accounting, cost accounting, or cost control roles
  • Strong experience with budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis
  • Excellent Excel skills and experience with ERP systems such as SAP, Oracle, Unit 4, or similar
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to influence stakeholders and challenge costs
  • The ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced, project‑driven environment

This role would suit someone who enjoys being close to the detail, improving financial processes, and adding real value through cost optimisation and commercial insight.
