The Power BI Developer is a hands-on technical role responsible for designing, developing, and delivering robust, scalable Power BI solutions that support business performance and decision-making. You will work closely with stakeholders to gather requirements and deliver PBI dashboards and ad-hoc analysis, while focusing on automation, performance optimisation, and self-serve enablement. This role blends technical delivery with product ownership and stakeholder engagement, ensuring Power BI assets are well-governed, reusable, and aligned with business needs.
You will work with business stakeholders to support them in their adoption of Power BI.
- Design and develop scalable Power BI dashboards that support strategic and operational decision-making.
- Input into the design and development of scalable Power BI semantic models that enables efficiencies and commonality of KPI’s across dashboards.
- Gather and translate business requirements into technical specifications for Power BI solutions.
- Deliver PBI dashboard support and ad-hoc analysis to business teams, ensuring accuracy and relevance.
- Automate reporting pipelines and optimise performance of Power BI assets.
- Document solutions clearly so both technical team members and non-technical stakeholders can understand calculations, data sources, and make future changes as needed.
- Liaise with stakeholders to respond to data queries, troubleshoot issues, and gather user requirements that support future BI solutions
- Clearly communicate outputs through demonstrations, workshops and conversations with key stakeholders
- Have good knowledge of the data and business processes within the business domain you are working with, understanding the data lineage and ensuring the use of the data is appropriate and has integrity
- Ensure adherence to Power BI workspace governance, including version control, deployment processes, and UX standards and identify opportunities to improve these.
- Support the UX design of new reports and follow existing templating to provide a visually strong appearance for stakeholders
- Collaborate with data engineering to ensure data ingestion and model performance are optimised.
- Work with the wider Data team and business stakeholders to ensure data is defined, structured and accessible in a way that supports the self-serve of Power BI reports and semantic models.
- Collaborate with other Power BI developers, sharing knowledge and supporting each other on projects.
- Work closely with the wider Data team to onboard and explore new sources of data relevant for work delivery
- Identify and escalate risks and issues related to data and reporting.
- Work in an Agile framework using JIRA, contributing to sprint planning, estimation, and delivery
- Support stakeholders in adopting Power BI tools and provide technical enablement and training.
- Promote best practices in Power BI development and contribute to continuous improvement.
- Maintain strong relationships with stakeholders, peers and SME’s.
Capability, Knowledge and Experience:
- Experience in developing and maintaining scalable Power BI solutions.
- Strong proficiency in Power BI, including DAX, Power Query, and performance optimisation.
- Advanced SQL skills, preferably with experience in Big Query or Databricks.
- Experience in automating reporting pipelines and enabling self-serve analytics.
- Proven ability to gather requirements and translate them into technical solutions.
- Experience in Power BI workspace governance and deployment processes.
- Strong understanding of data modelling, data warehousing, and BI architecture.
- Comfortable working in Agile environments and using tools like Jira and Confluence.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Education and Qualifications:
- Degree in Computing, Mathematics, or a related discipline preferred.
- Professional certifications in Power BI or data visualisation are an advantage.
