We’re looking for a Senior Backend / Data Engineer to join our centralized Safety team within the AI Foundations Studio. This team develops state-of-the-art solutions to ensure safety across personalization products, including search, home recommendations, podcast discovery, and emerging GenAI features like AI Play listing and video trailers. Our work spans tier-0 services such as recommendation filtering and production pipelines powering core experiences.

You’ll collaborate with research and trust & safety squads to prototype and deploy innovative techniques, tackling complex challenges around content sensitivity and user experience. What You’ll Do

Design technical specifications in partnership with product teams
Build large-scale, production-quality data pipelines
Architect, develop, deploy, and operate backend services serving millions of users
Act as a technical leader within your team and across the organization
Contribute to a cross-functional, autonomous agile team
Influence backend/data architecture company-wide
Participate in hack days and hack weeks to innovate and experiment

Who You Are

Proven experience delivering end-to-end production-quality backend/data solutions at scale
Skilled in designing modular architectures and tech specs for ambiguous problem spaces
Expertise in Ray, Hendrix, Scio, Java, Python, dbt, Big Query, SQL
Comfortable collaborating across multiple teams and disciplines
Interested in owning complex, ambiguous problem spaces and driving clarity
